Hi Bloggers
Its another hot and sunny afternoon and we do not get so many in blighty,
Grandads keeping well albeit getting nigly, He say the home are feeding him badly and is going on hunger strike on monday.
He has refused to eat again.
To some this would be setting of alarm bells
So todays discusion is where to get concerned.
Many things could be made from the old fellas remarks
Is the home abusing him with poor food is he being neglected simple answer is no he is not and neither is he at any risk.
The home have had some problems in the past and it was left with the family to sort out with no help from the then social workers who simply declined to get involved with grandads apparent neglect and abuse.
As the weather is getting very warm the home were thinking that sandwiches would be a nice idea in preference to a hot meal at teatime,
Grandad holds a dislike for sandwiches as he says "He has had a lifetime of sandwiches in his work life"
Fair enough and he holds a very dry sense of humour and I suspect this is where the "Hunger Strike" remark has come from.
This is where the problems start as it is all down to how his comments are perceived and acted on.
So here is the question should I demand that Vulnerable Adult Investigation takes place or should it simply be discussed with the family and simple checks be carried out to ensure that grandad is safe from any harm.
We have some problems as a family, In that we are aware that the home will lie when it comes to situations that have happened around his direct care and protection therefore how can we trust the home.
In an ideal world people would tell the truth, however when it comes to job protection at a basic level individuals will lie.
The process of a Vulnerable Adult Investigation is quite complex and involves checks and possible referral to the police if a criminal matter is highlighted.
I would like to think that the above works but it does not.
There are failings in the process where social workers will fail to validate the accuracy of incidences and false report facts surrounding cases and further will lie to protect there own failings this is either due to being overworked or just plain ignorance of the position of trust that they hold.
This archives nothing for the elderly persons protection or vulnerable situation and causes family distress.
In my grandads case no financial provision was made for now 2 years to provide him with basics such as shampoo and daycare items although the home were "scraping them from other residents items" no social worker picked up on this although the family were persistently requesting where these were from.
It transpires apparently that Staffordshire County Council have not being paying for these items and are only now after 2 years undertaking an "Internal Investigation"
I can only await what I feel is another cover up with baited breath and amusement.
How possible is it for a Social Worker to carry out a Vulnerable Adult Investigation when they can simply lie or provide false information, And when there employer refuses to even look at the physical evidence that validates our thoughts.
