Another Sleepless Night

Hi Bloggers

Things are still not good grandad has had to be admitted to hospital and he is suffering with pneumonia and dehydration.

I feel so knotted up inside, I got a phone call on the Wednesday morning from the home as his GP had stated that he needed to go to hospital for his infection, I was informed that an ambulance had been called.

When I got to the home he looked more ill than the previous night, I just knew something was seriously wrong.

We waited for ages for the ambulance only to find that a proper ambulance had not been called but instead the community transport had been called instead.

The paramedics from the community transport were in a state of shock at his appearance and instantly made medical checks on him and found the following.

His oxygen saturation was very low.

He was running an excessivily high tempreature

His heart rate was eratic.

He was in a comatose state.

And his GP thought that community transport was the best answer ?

The biggest problem I have with this was that the home were of the opinion that he could attend hospital in a wheel chair.

Whilst I was at the home and we were awaiting a full ambulance to arrive there was a complete lack of professional conduct shown by both the transport staff and the home manager which extended to a full squabble between the professionals that should have known better, All in front of my grandfarther.

It must be stated that I did raise my voice to all to remind them of why they were there and how inappropriate it was.

At the end of the day it is what is best for my grandad not who should be trying to score points.

Bearing in mind I am not a GP  I can still see when someone is not well, The GP has attended him every day and yet he is left with little oxygen saturation struggling to draw breath for many days.

I would like to make my point here there is no need for an elderly person to be taken in to hospital if there symptoms are not acute.

I am now a lot wiser when it comes to the treatment afforded to the elderly and the blame should fall fully on the GP.

So this is where the old fella is tonight

He is comfortable in a hospital bed however he is still comatose.

Nill by mouth,

His lungs are enveloped with pneumonia his heart rate is nice and settled now however he is still struggling to breath.

He has now received plenty of fluids and antibiotics

He held my hand tonight and I pray for his comfort and whatever the night holds.

Please pray for him folks
