Hi Bloggers
It has been a very productive few days after long drawn out negotiations the the expenditure regarding my Late Grandfather has been shown.
Elderly people in care should receive an allowance for there personal needs, Things like a newspaper or sterridents shavers etc.
I always knew that whist my grandad was in care little to none existent provision was being made, this was very distressing to see.
After reviewing the accounts it appears that a reasonable amount of monies were being given to the home by the appointee however nothing was being purchased by the home.
However the full amount payable was withheld from him even though he requested to have these funds himself
Should this be a criminal matter or just put down to incompetence or neglect.
I feel satisfied that the full sad facts of the situation have been laid bare and only confirm my suspicions.
The failure to provide for my grandfather should have been the subject of a Vulnerable adult investigation as far back as Feb 2012.
This never happened.
I have today discussed this matter with the Police and crime commissioner who has shown concern that very little action was undertaken upon 2 requests to the police.
This does not mean that there has been any criminal action, however incompetence may have been the cause.
My hope is that the police in future will look into these matters when raised by a concerned family member and not just refer the issue back to a possible perpetrator of theft or incompetency.
The Local Government Ombudsman has started there new investigation and hopefully the full extend can be finally shown so that lessons can be learned.
The Vulnerable Adult Procedures are there for a reason to protect Vulnerable Adults, our county council do not appear to understand how serious failure to follow these are.
The Local Authority Social Services and National Health Service Complaints (England) Regulations 2009 are also there for a reason for the safe and effective handling of complaints based on evidence and mutual communication, Our county council appear to not understand how to implement this.
You can never underestimate the peace you can feel just to receive some professional conduct and transparency in any situation.
The recent information gained will allow me to wait a short time to see if the police are happy with the situation and then I will be able to finally wrap up my grandfathers estate.
Let me know your feelings
