Email sent recently when asked about my experience of being a Carer in Staffordshire

Someone recently asked me for my experience with Staffordshire County Council as a carer and my experience of suicidal thoughts .



I thought I would share my reply with you folks on here.


In 2011 the then county council employed social workers embarked on a witch hunt after I had raised the issues of poor medical care afforded to my late grandad.

I had raised a further issue when i had witnessed a carer abusing my grandfather at home.

I left my employment so i could care for my grandad as the local care provision was unreliable and rushed.

My grandad after a fall whilst in a local respite broke his hip and was taken to UHNS whilst heavily medicated apparently made a concern regarding his care at home regarding his food and his money.

A vulnerable adult investigation was raised and apparently undertaken by a Mrs Y Sivyer.

The social worker fabricated evidence and mishandled the investigation and caused severe distress to me by directly accusing me of abuse and neglect and tried repeatedly during a meeting with no notice to relinquish my care for my grandad.

At one point during this meeting she stated to me that my grandad could go home and blow himself up if he wanted, however she denies this.

There was no communication from Staffordshire County Council at any time after or even up until my hand was forced to place him in care.

Prior to this event I had witnessed my grandad being neglected at the hands of both the UHNS and the Stoke on Trent Partnership with poor food no physio and exesive sedation.

The two parties acknowledged the failings and promised that care had improved, the matter was referred to the PHSO but unfortunately they could not investigate as all his medical records had gone missing.

The meeting with Mrs Sivyer and the councils general attitude towards me and the protection measures that she had set up with the home caused distress both to my grandad and myself.

In a place that I wish never to return to and at a loss with no answers and complete despair I felt that I was the failure and that i had somehow abused and neglected my grandad.

I walked for a few miles at night in the dark determined to get to a local bridge and to jump off onto the road below in front of the biggest vehicle I could see.

At that point in time I did not care or give any thought to what my actions would do to my own family or even my own grandad.

It has now come to light these years later that the social workers Vulnerable Adult Investigation had found that I was guilty of abuse and neglect based upon a falsified set of care notes that had been apparently supplied by a local care company called Archangel Care in which it had been stated I was neglecting and abusing my own grandad.

The County Council insist to date that they have these care notes how ever this is impossible as I hold the originals and there was never any abuse or neglect to my grandad a man that I loved and still miss very much.

The Council then went on to fail to ensure of my grandads safety at the care home and his financial needs after telling the DWP that I was a thief which was not true or fact and had assumed my guilt contrary to the evidence.

They had taken over his financial arrangements without discussion with him even though he had mental capacity.

The County Council never asked me what help I needed as a carer or supported me in my role they only falsely accused lied and carried out a which hunt and threatened me directly.

There has been no accountability at the council only a wall of ignorance and silence.

The Local Government Ombudsman has found the Council at fault for how I was treated however the Council have evaded the serious failings surrounding the safeguarding investigation.

The worst thing about how the County Council behaved was that my grandad was denied the right to be in his own home where he could and wanted to be.

I have no further way to gain accountability from the county council as there is no legal aid for libel or defamation and there is no legal recouse for the average person in this country.

My MP is simply not interested

There will never be change with a council as ignorant as Staffordshire County Council
