Hi Bloggers & Good Friends
Hope you all had a great Christmas and received all the presents you wished for.
It is a good time of the year to just switch off and recharge the batteries from all life's troubles and challenges.
However we should all take the time to remember those who have been alone or poorly over this festive time.
I am not talking of those of you with self inflicted drink problems who have just stuffed themselves to excess like I have lol.
I received a good array of presents including a very nice new chop saw and those who know me so well a bottle of Drambuie.
So back to why I am here, as usual it is to vent my spleen regarding this stupid world we live in.
Whilst those in our NHS keep telling us how good home care is for the elderly in Stoke, It is with great regret that over these last two weeks I witnessed a case of elderly home care.
The person is very poorly and over 90 years of age.
They were discharged from hospital whilst the requirement for an air mattress was a necessity and was at that time in use.
When at home it became obvious that Bed soars could be a risk and unfortunately due to the lack of provision these started to appear.
The nursing staff who are providing the home care were requesting this mattress however it transpires that no mattress can be provided unless pressure sores have become fully developed.
It is fully apparent from the home care delivery that the care and compassion is there however the provision of material essential for home care is not.
This is a commissioning level problem within the trust.
I was so incensed by this lack of safety critical equipment that I placed A Tweet on Twitter regarding this.
I received a reply from the CEO of the Trust requesting further details of the matter.
After considerable thought and in the knowledge that the staff were pushing the issue I decided that I would not place my head yet again on the chopping block of the Stoke on Trent Partnership as past experience of raising a complaint with them regarding adult nursing care had resulted in a backlash of abuse and lies from Social Care which had caused considerable damage to both my late grandad and myself.
Further to this the simple provision of a mattress should be for any adult in need and not just one individual who happens to be made apparent to a CEO.
It is good that elderly can be at home in any situation of care and it releases beds for the NHS however it is despicable if those in governance cannot provide the right protection to avoid readmission's.
Bed Blocking back in 2012
So with all the spin about how well care at home is going it springs to my mind that those who are making statements "that all is well" Should wake up and face the reality of those who are the family and carers of these elderly folk.
