Postcode Lottery of NHS Staffordshire v Lincolnshire

Hi Folks'

It has been some time since I wrote and updated you all on how the Stoke on Trent Partnership Trust are not holding true to its Values.

But the reason for todays update is because just at the point I had come to my own conclusion regarding the state of our whole NHS, A very interesting situation happened whilst I was away on holiday.

Living in Staffordshire I have seen NHS Staff with no will or enjoyment in there own job roles.

Staff so overworked and undervalued.

Wards so understaffed and A&E waiting times with patients on Stryker trollies for hours on end.

Cleaning staff sat around and not Cleaning wards thoroughly.

Hospital Social Workers who could not be trusted to be truthful or record fact on patient records.

Nursing Staff not recording the full record of patients fluid intakes.

Failings being persistently covered up and the local trusts so called investigations being flawed.

Community Social care being nothing more than 15min care visits for vulnerable elderly.

Social workers behaving like unaccountable gods who should not be challenged when meddling in family life.

Social Workers being unaccountable for money that belongs to vulnerable adults

This was what I believed the whole NHS in our country had come to and that against my own views that Privatisation was the only answer.

After visiting two different hospitals over the past two weeks my eyes have been opened and my opinion changed.

These two hospitals are under the remit of NHS Lincolnshire.

The first of the hospitals was Boston in Lincolnshire A&E.

After following An Ambulance for over an hour from the coast we arrived at a very busy A&E department.

four doctors in main A&E on a Sunday all working none stop communication was flowing between all points of the A&E like a well oiled machine.

Results were being permanently chased up with an average wait time of around 20 mins between assessment and tests being requested then actioned.

There was no waiting for porters or cleaning staff as there were permanently dedicated staff available.

There was no ignorance between staff levels, Nurses of all levels and cleaners / porters all worked together.

Patient waiting times were being continuously watched and scrutinised by a dedicated member of the A&E team who had no reservation in holding doctors and nurses or x ray to account on a strict basis.

In total within 2 hours the following undertaken bloods, X-ray,Scan Stats & full condition diagnosed.

All carried out with continuous explanation of what results were and what was to happen next.

It was confirmed that many kidney stones were present and were around 6mm in diameter.

This would require the attention of surgeons at a different hospital in Lincoln itself.

A Priority 1 transfer was arranged and within five mins of the request being made to the ambulance service the patient was on route to Lincoln.

The above left me in complete shock, how can A different trust be so efficient and streamlined with staff who appeared fully committed and happy when here in Staffordshire the staff appear demoralised and the system broken.

At Lincoln the same again ward fully staffed and all working as a team from nurses to cleaners and doctors all communicating with each other regarding all aspect's of the ward and its patients.

At no time did the patient feel anything other than informed and in the hands of professional care.

My own final thoughts.

New Buildings do not make our NHS,it is its Staff and the way in which they communicate.

The Stoke on Trent Partnership and our own local UHNM Hospital Trust could gain valuable insight and lessons from how Lincolnshire Trust functions and operates.

If the actions and activities of the Lincolnshire Trusts could be bottled it would be the saviour of our NHS.

I promise you all it will not be as long next time between updates, my excuse it is summer.

Steve
