I have today taken grandad for a hospital visit as I was contacted by the hospital directly I had no idea why he had this appointment made as no information came from either his Gp or the carehome or even the Social Worker No suprise there then.
After picking the old fella up and going to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire we wait for an hour for the gastro specialist all this time neither of us having no idea why we are there.
We go in and are asked by the specialist why we are there and appologises for having absolutly no idea as to his medical past as he has no notes lol, I say "no idea" he looks at me bemused and shows me the referal from the new Gp.
The old fella has to hear of all his past again its just not right.
On the referal it states that he has lost all appetite and has lost a stone in the last month.
Fair enough no one had told me of this concern albeit i had noticed in the last 2 weeks that he was losing weight but was informed that the doctor had been keeping a check on him.
about 6 months ago i took him to a medical appointment and he was weighed and was 10 stone sounds light but he has always been slim.
his weight today is a shocking 8 stone.
upon looking at the referal the new Gp states that a social worker will assist him to hospital, It begs the question although the Gp has been informed of the family always taking him to hospital and getting his hair cuts etc why has this comment been made and yet again no contact from Gp or Social Worker.
The family are being excluded from his care either by accident or intent.
Grandad has confirmed to the gastro doctor today of his wishes for the family to be involved in his care.
On the upside I have found a website called patient oppinion where you can give your genuine feedback and oppinions Good or Bad.
I have put the issue of grandads care and neglect to both trusts involved including the loss of medical notes which has stopped any external investigation by the Health Ombudsman.
