Elderly Social Care in Staffordshire

Hi Bloggers

Well its Friday and still no answers.

A major issue is on my mind this week, A good friend of mine who is the sprightly age of 90 years young became ill last week.

They are a nice couple who get on with life, he likes to garden and plant roses and still enjoys building garden features involving some light building work.

She involves herself in the community spending her time being a carer and also helping others locally.'

Upon the elderly gentleman's admission to hospital last week it has become fully evident to me of how much pressure his wife is under.

She is at breaking point and requires the help from social care, this situation has been going on inside of their own home and out of sight for in excess of 2 years.

She knows that she requires long term help to care for her husband and to receive support.

You would think that the immediate response was to ask social care for help, however they are both defiantly against this.

The reasons for her feelings is that she has her own insight into how the county council work and how social work professionals can fill in information regarding the elderly in a continual negative way to discredit the elderly person directly.

She also feels that the involvement of social care would not enhance the quality of life they hold but would decimate what years they have left.

My view on this situation is that they need help but are simply to scared to ask as they feel the imminent charge of decision making with very little to no thought to both of there needs would be forthcoming.

The reality is that the County Council is charged to protect the elderly and vulnerable in our society, however the reality is that they are to busy following fixed rails to see the human picture.

Very Sad.

Steve
